She was retired from American Standard, former owner and operator of Tommie's Restaurant of Paintsville and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Ernest Burchett, 82, died Monday, June 21, at Northwest Texas Hospital, Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Burchett was a native of Stambaugh, and a Borger, Texas, resident for 49 years. He attended Oil Springs High School and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Force. He retired from Phillips Petroleum after 30 years as a photographer and was a member of Abundance Life Fellowship.

Stephen Perry Hager, 90, a native of Paintsville, died Tuesday, July 6, at his home in San Diego, California. Mr. Hager was born April 23, 1909, to the late Eugene and Alice Perry Hager of Paintsville. Prior to his retirement, he was a prominent businessman in San Diego where he owned a retail display business. His clientele included major department stores in cities throughout the country, as well as numerous stores in foreign countries. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He was a member of the River United Baptist Church since 1930 and attended River schools. He had lived in the Ironton area since 1943.

She was born on February 11, 1941 to John Dills and Avanell Trimble Dills in Paintsville. Surviving are two sons, J. David Smith of Nashville and Mark A. Smith of Louisville. Her mother, Avanell, and four grandchildren also survive.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Mae Osborne VanHoose; a son, Leonard VanHoose of Lowmansville; two daughters, Mary Lou Garland of Lowmansville and Betty Hebebrand of Perrysburg, Ohio; one sister, Marie Greene of Lowmansville; one grandchild, and nine great-grandchildren.

Nina Marie Williams of West Van Lear died Friday, July 2. Ms. Williams was born May 21, 1912, at Stambaugh, to the late David Powell Williams and Malta Stambaugh Williams. She graduated from Van Lear High School. She was well known in the county where in her last job she served as postmaster for West Van Lear. In the 1940s, Ms. Williams managed the Snack Bar on Church Street in Paintsville. Later in the 50s and 60s, she traveled in Tennessee and Kentucky, representing the Anne Vien Costume Jewelry Company of Atlanta, Georgia. Before becoming postmaster, she also taught cooking at Mayo Vocational School in Paintsville.
