Stockdale Cemetery

Located N.E. of the old town of Stockdale, just north of Eel River, northeast of county roads 770W and River Road. Formerly called Burdge Cemetery,Section 35 Township 29 Range 5. It is the only cemetery in Wabash county to have a known Revolutionary War veteran buried there. A D.A.R. marker marks the grave of Samuel Burdge.

The Stockdale Cemetery is situated a short distance N.E. of the Old town Stockdale.
Several families formerly made it their place of burial, but it is somewhat difficult of access, and the general public bury their dead elswhere. In Sept 1970 there was only 18 stones standing and 15 stones were stacked near a tree. Some of the names of people buried here are Abshire -Barnes-Bonewitz-Black-Croft-Gingrich-Davis-Overly-Reynolds-Keim-Caulfield-Lewis-Loder-Duncan- and several people by the name of Burdge. One Revoluntionary War Veteran.
This cemetery is part of the Burdge Farm.

Above description of the cemetery was taken from "The History of Roann" and can be found at the Roann Library.
